#6 Black Panther (8 out of 10)
What can I say about this film that hasn’t already been said. This film is a cultural phenomenon and I loved it!!! It’s amazing that this movie can be very unique and surprising considering the number of mcu films that have come before this one. This film is fun and I very much enjoyed everything about it! I loved the music, the acting and the stand out for me was the villain. Rarely you have a villain whose back story is moving and makes you understand why he is acting the way he is. Shuri is funny and smart and perhaps my favorite character of this film. So if you’re one of the few people who hasn’t seen this film please see it so you’ll have an adventure in Wakanda!
#5 Overboard (2018) (8.5 out of 10)
I know this may be a surprise for many of you out there and I may get criticized for this. How can she put this remake above Black Panther?? Well I loved this movie!! I know it doesn’t have the best reviews and many believe this movie didn’t need the remake but as a Mexican I can say that I’m happy this movie was made. I don’t recall seeing a movie where the lead character is Mexican portraying a wealthy Mexican. He isn’t wealthy because he is the lord of a cartel. This protagonist is outside of your Hollywood stereotypical Mexican portrayal and I appreciated that very much. I love the comedy in this film and the story was touching and sweet. Yes it has the cliche moments but overall I enjoyed this film. Some of this movie is in Spanish, which I had no problem understanding, and some Mexican comedians make an appearance in this film that elevated the movie (imo). Overall this is a funny, romantic and touching film.
