Movie Review: Venom
This movie is directed by Ruben Fleischer and it stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Jenny Slate.
This film is about Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) a journalist who is trying to expose Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) and his company. Carlton decides to do some experiments in his company that are ethically controversial. Eddie goes into this company for physical evidence and finds himself face to face with a symbiote. This film tells us the story of how Venom and Eddie interact with one another.
I had heard nothing but negative reviews about this film so I went into this film with the lowest (if any) expectations. The beginning of this film felt slow and I didn’t quite understand what was going on. It took a while before Eddie and Venom first encounter each other and that made the first act feel long and boring. Once Eddie and Venom interact that’s when the movie picks up and gets good. Tom Hardy did an amazing job as Eddie and Venom. The relationship between them and how they try to depend on one another is entertaining and fun. There were some nice action scenes and there were even some funny moments (most of them between Eddie and Venom). I did have some issues with the CGI but other than that I had a fun time watching this movie. Riz Ahmed did an ok job although his character seemed generic because there is no character development. Michelle Williams appeared to be forced to act in this film and personally I didn’t feel any chemistry between Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams. I was expecting to go in and watch the worst movie of this year but I ended up liking this movie. It’s not the perfect movie but I was entertained. The post credit scenes are good too so don’t leave.
I give this an 7.0 out of 10
