Movie Review: First Man
This film is directed by Damien Chazelle and it stars Ryan Goslin, Claire Foy, Kyle Chandler, Pablo Schreiber, and Corey Stoll.
This film is about Neil Armstrong and his dangerous mission to get to the moon. This film explores both his personal life and his career as an astronaut.
I liked this film very much (I nearly loved it). Majority of this film is outstanding. The sound design in this film is impeccable and the visuals are beautiful. The director does an excellent job in transporting you into the condense space the astronauts are in and it gives you that feeling that you’re in there with them and the sense of claustrophobia is high. This film is thrilling and suspenseful even though we all know how this movie ends. The acting from the supporting cast is great and for me the best performance in this film was from Claire Foy. She has been on my radar since her stellar performance in “The Crown” and now I can’t wait for her next film. Now the reason why I couldn’t love this film is for one simple reason, Ryan Goslin. Maybe it was how the character was supposed to be portrayed, but he didn’t convey anything to me. He had some scenes where he could have shined and make me feel something but he didn’t. I’m not the biggest Ryan Goslin fan and perhaps I may be biased on this thought but i think he may have been miscast in this film. Overall this film is well done and it has Oscar written all over it.
I give this film an 8.0 out of 10
