Movie Review: Hotel Mumbai

This film is directed by Anthony Maras and it stars Dev Patel, Nazanin Boniadi, Armie Hammer, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Jason Isaacs and Anupam Kher.

This film is based on true events and it’s about the terror attacks that occured in Mumbai back in 2008. This film takes a closer look at the events that occured in the Taj Mahal Palace. A kitchen chef and waiter decide to stay back in the hotel and do everything in their power to protect their guest.

Hotel Mumbai is a powerful film. It’s suspenseful, thrilling, gruesome and visceral. Definitely not an easy watch but worth seeing. It’s one of the few films that will stick with you after watching it and will make you think about everything going on around the world. I’m reminded again that anything unexpected can occur simply by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I wasn’t aware these events had happened and some of the actually footage is embedded within this film. There is a scene where generalization is addressed and I certainly was impressed on how intelligently this was handled. I found myself caring for many of the characters. This film even manages to give one of the attackers a tinge of humanity although at the end the attacker continues to do as his told. Great acting all around. Dev Patel gives a great performance. I know we are only at the end of March but this is definitely one of my favorite films as of now. If you want to see a film that will move you and have you sitting at the edge of your seat go see this film. I certainly recommend seeing it.
I give this film a 9.8 out of 10
