This film is directed by Roxann Dawson and it stars Chrissy Metz, Josh Lucas, Marcel Ruiz, Topher Grace, Mike Colter and Dennis Haysbert.
This film is based on true events and it’s about a mother’s unconditional love and hope. Joyce (Chrissy Metz) and Brian (Josh Lucas) adopt a Guatemalan boy and name him John Smith (Marcel Ruiz). John is soon found in a life and death situation and Joyce puts all her hope and faith in her religion.
This film tested my ability to watch a film solely on the film and putting aside my personal beliefs (I’m an atheist). I do have my personal thoughts on it but as a professional I must give my review based on the film. This film was a touching and moving film. Chrissy Metz is a powerhouse and her performance is amazing. Supporting cast is good too. Script may have been a bit better but overall it was just an ok script. The story is based on real events and therefore the movie is very predictable. Majority of the emotional scenes are carried masterfully by Chrissy Metz and her performance definitely elevates this film. I love the message of love and how powerful it is. I enjoyed how this movie portrayed the power and potential there is when humans come together and work towards the same goal. I was moved with this movie (as a mother). Whether you’re a believer or not this film has the potential to move you, but if you’re an evangelical this film is definitely for you. Overall a descent film.
I give this film a 6 out of 10
