Movie Review: Rocketman

This film is directed by Dexter Fletcher and it stars Taron Egerton, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jamie Bell, Charlie Rowe and Steven Mackintosh.

This film is based on the life of Elton John and it’s told appropriately with magic and fantasy elements.

What an amazing film!! This film is definitely in the run for my favorite film this year (for now). This movie is simply magical (pun definitely intended). Egerton deserves an Oscar nomination for this performance. I knew he could sing but I had no idea to what capacity. Egerton brings his A game into this film and he absolutely nails it! Supporting cast was phenomenal too. Richard Madden as John Reid was great! I disliked Maddens character, which speaks of Maddens phenomenal performance. The young boy who played the younger Elton John was great too! I appreciated that this film didn’t shy away from his issues and homosexuality. I walked into this film knowing some of Elton John’s songs as I’m not the biggest hardcore fan, so I wasn’t fully aware of Elton John’s story. If anyone deserves to have a story told with magical and fantasy elements is Elton John. I enjoyed the costumes in this movie and for some reason I have the temptation to find a way to get a hold of all those glasses and keep them as a collection. This is certainly a musical I will remember for a long time. The million dollar question; is this film better, the same, or not as good as Bohemian Rhapsody?. The moment the trailer came out I heard many comparisons to BoRhap and how Rocketman was going to be this years Bohemian Rhapsody. Many of you know that Bohemian Rhapsody was my favorite film of last year and I have unapologetically defended and supported the film (BoRhap currently hold the record for in theater views with 16 viewings). I admit that I’m a bigger fan of Queen than I am of Elton John, but I can’t deny that Rocketman is the superior film. So there it is!! Rocketman is a much superior film than Bohemian Rhapsody. Please go watch it!! It comes out 5/31 and yes I’ll be doing a giveaway (fandango gift card) so you can go see it!!

I give this film a 10 out of 10
