Movie Review: Dark Phoenix

This film is directed by Simon Kinberg and it stars Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Evan Peters, and Nicholas Hoult.

This is the final installation of the X-Men franchise and it’s about Jean Grey and how she became the Dark Phoenix.

Hmmmm. Oh boy was this bad. Was it complete garbage? Not entirely. The script was bad and the actors did whatever they could do with what they were given. Unfortunately the dialogue is too bad that many times i found myself rolling my eyes and questioning my decision on spending my hard earn money to watch this. Visuals are good and the fight scenes were decent. I do think that the visuals were good enough that it compensated for the horrible script and the action scenes were quite good and they did manage to keep my attention in the film. Sophie Turner was actually good in this movie. She was definitely my favorite part of this movie. Supporting cast was good I believed McAvoy and Fassbender with what they were given. Chastain on the other hand was my least favorite character in this film I wasn’t particularly fond of what she did. I will say that Lawrence’s hate for this film is evident and it’s unfortunate that her dislike for this film is too obvious. I believe the drama behind the scenes and the multiple release dates moves on this movie affected this film. I recently learned that this film is directed by a first time director. I understand everyone must start their career somewhere but I don’t think it was the best idea to put a first time director for this movie. Some camera shots and movements were too much and I couldn’t distinct who was in the shot and what was going on. Sadly I dislike this film a bit more than what I liked it so I can’t recommend to see it. I will say that I don’t understand how it’s underperforming in the box office as the screening I was in was full.

I give this film a 4 out of 10
